PRESERVING HISTORY
ONE GREEN AT A TIME
Current Project ~ Newbury Upper Green
A piece of history: The green was the site of army encampments on Sept. 18-19, 1775, and a boulder marks the spot where Gen. Benedict Arnold trained troops during the Revolutionary War, before he became a turncoat. LEARN MORE
Newbury, MA ~ Upper Green

Newbury is steeped in history. The Upper Green was a watering hole for livestock, as well as a training ground during the Revolutionary War. By adding features to the Upper Green that would draw attention to this rich history, while honoring its use as a gathering place for residents, we expect to simultaneously enhance the park’s aesthetics, reinforce its unique place in American history and encourage its use.
Following the joint public meeting held by the Board of Selectmen and Planning Board January 22, 2019, GreenER has taken many suggestions into consideration. Changes will be presented at the upcoming meetings, starting with our informational night meeting scheduled for February 25, 2019 at 7pm. The meeting will be held at Newbury Elementary School auditorium.
